Gewa Damp- It Humidifier

The Dampit is the world's original string instrument humidifier, designed to protect violins, violas, cellos from the damaging effects of dry air. Simple, affordable, and effective, it has been a staple of instrument care for over 60 years.

How It Works The Dampit consists of a soft rubber sleeve encasing an open-cell sponge. When placed inside your instrument, it slowly releases moisture directly into the body, raising and stabilizing internal humidity right where it matters most. Unlike a room humidifier, it targets your instrument specifically — preventing the wood from warping, cracking, or ungluing. It can even stay inside the instrument while you play, with no loss of tone.

How to Use It

  1. Submerge the Dampit in water for about 20 seconds. Use distilled or softened water in hard-water areas.
  2. Squeeze out the excess water so it won't drip.
  3. Wipe the outer rubber sleeve dry with a cloth.
  4. Slide it into your instrument through the f-holes (or soundhole for guitar).
  5. Repeat when the sponge is nearly dry. Use during dry weather or whenever central heating is running.

Each Dampit comes with a humidity indicator so you always know when it's time to rehydrate.
