Gewa Damp- It Humidifier
The Dampit is the world's original string instrument humidifier, designed to protect violins, violas, cellos from the damaging effects of dry air. Simple, affordable, and effective, it has been a staple of instrument care for over 60 years.
How It Works The Dampit consists of a soft rubber sleeve encasing an open-cell sponge. When placed inside your instrument, it slowly releases moisture directly into the body, raising and stabilizing internal humidity right where it matters most. Unlike a room humidifier, it targets your instrument specifically — preventing the wood from warping, cracking, or ungluing. It can even stay inside the instrument while you play, with no loss of tone.
How to Use It
- Submerge the Dampit in water for about 20 seconds. Use distilled or softened water in hard-water areas.
- Squeeze out the excess water so it won't drip.
- Wipe the outer rubber sleeve dry with a cloth.
- Slide it into your instrument through the f-holes (or soundhole for guitar).
- Repeat when the sponge is nearly dry. Use during dry weather or whenever central heating is running.
Each Dampit comes with a humidity indicator so you always know when it's time to rehydrate.
