Viola by Nestor Dominique Audinot Paris 1908 - 15 3/4"
This viola is exceptional in sound quality, presence, and range. It offers a strong, consistent presence across all registers with a versatile character. The lower range is deep and rich, while the upper register remains focused and clear without losing its robust character. The tone is smooth and sophisticated, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a powerful and capable instrument for performance.
The instrument features an amber-colored varnish, a one-piece back, and is in a good state of preservation.
Nestor Audinot (1842–1920) was a French luthier trained in Mirecourt who later worked in Paris, bridging traditional craftsmanship with Parisian refinement. Influenced by Lupot and Vuillaume, his violins feature precise outlines, fine arching, elegant scrolls, and transparent golden-orange to reddish-brown varnish. Valued for their clarity, projection, and reliability, Audinot’s instruments exemplify the high standards of French violin making at the turn of the 20th century.
