Cello by Dongpil Im Cremona 2022
This luthier-made cello has a particularly clear sound with a strong ringing quality—attributes often sought after by soloists. The upper register produces a pure, focused tone with excellent projection. In the lower registers, the instrument retains its bright character while gaining a subtle layer of texture that adds depth and individuality to the sound. The cello has strong resonance, allowing notes to continue ringing even after they have finished being played. Overall, the instrument has a distinctly bright character and remains well balanced across all registers.
Dong Pil Im, born in Korea in 1979, trained in Cremona at the International Violin Making School, graduating in 2007 under Lorenzo Marchi and receiving a further degree in 2008 with Silvio Levaggi.
