The Louis Keller model viola is made with a two-piece back of richly flamed close grain maple with deep optical movement, book-matched to form chevrons. Ribs and scroll match the back. The top is of a fine grain spruce. Varnish is dark reddish amber over a golden base. Mildly antiqued consisting of a thinning of the varnish in the usual places suggesting handling and wear on the back and mildly on the top. The Viola is modeled on a Stradivari, with the appropriate sound-holes and mould. Pegs and Chinrest are ebony; the tailpiece is a Wittner with four integrated fine tuners. LAVS luthiers do all the set-up and install Thomastik Dominant or Vision strings. An excellent instrument for the advancing student or amateur player on a budget.
