The Cantus Dubois Viola is a good choice for the intermediate player looking for a warm yet bold sounding instrument at a good price. The Cantus Dubois features a solid Engelmann spruce top, highly flamed maple back and sides, beautiful ebony fingerboard, and a hand-rubbed reddish brown oil varnish finish with tastefully done natural-looking antiquing. The luthiers at LAVS do all the set-up here in house. They inspect and dress the fingerboard, custom carve and fit the Despiau bridge, fit and adjust the soundpost. Tailpiece is either Wittner finetune tailpiece or one to match the chinrest and pegs. Strings are Dominants. Due to the variations in antiquing, wood-grains, etc, each Cantus Dubois instrument is unique, and may not match the photo.
