Violin by Kwang Yeon Kim Los Angeles 2024
This violin has a bright, ringing sound with a pure, clear tone that is especially notable in the upper register, where the brilliance stays focused and articulate. Strong resonance gives the instrument depth and presence, allowing notes to bloom and sustain naturally. With excellent projection and an easy, responsive feel under the bow, it sits comfortably in chamber settings while also cutting through orchestral textures with confidence — a versatile and expressive instrument for a wide range of playing situations.
Ryan (Kwang-Yeon) Kim joined the Los Angeles Violin Shop in 2015, where he crafts competition-grade violins and specializes in fine restoration and setup work. Known for his reliability and deep understanding of instrument construction, he has become a valued resource for clients and colleagues. Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Ryan developed an early interest in woodworking before moving to the United States, where his friendship with Owen Lee introduced him to violin making. He trained under Amos Hargrave and Jake Han and continues to expand his expertise with antique instruments. In 2021, he was awarded the Silver Medal for Violin Tone by the Violin Makers Association of Arizona International.
